Kindergartens & Preschools in Sanur: 2026 Guide for Families
4 October 2026 · Bali Villa Hunter

Why Sanur Is Bali’s Most Practical Base for Families With Small Children
Canggu has the cafés and Ubud has the rice fields, but when families with toddlers and preschoolers ask us where to rent long-term, the answer is very often Sanur. It is calm, flat and walkable, the beach is protected by a reef, Bali’s best hospitals are minutes away, and there are more established early-years schools within a few kilometres than anywhere else on the island.
This guide covers every serious preschool and kindergarten option in and around Sanur, with the 2026/27 fees each school publishes, what the curriculum actually is, and where each one sits — because in Bali the school run is your daily commute, and it should shape which villa you rent.
- 10+ options within about 10 minutes of central Sanur
- IB, Cambridge, British EYFS, Montessori, Reggio and Indonesian national curricula all represented
- From IDR 200,000 a day for drop-in care to IDR 150M+ a year for an international kindergarten
- Two school clusters west of the Bypass, where long-term villas are cheaper
How Preschool Works in Bali
Two systems run side by side, and the names for the same age group differ:
| Child’s age | Indonesian national system | British / Cambridge schools | IB schools |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2–3 | KB (playgroup) | Pre-Nursery / Toddlers | — |
| 3–4 | KB (playgroup) | Nursery / Pre-K | Preschool 3 |
| 4–5 | TK A (kindergarten) | Kindergarten / Reception / K1 | Preschool 4 |
| 5–6 | TK B (kindergarten) | Prep / Year 1 / K2 | Kindy |
Three things catch newcomers out:
- The school year starts in July. Most preschools still take children mid-year if they have a place, but the big schools fill popular year groups for July early.
- Tuition is only part of the bill. International schools add a registration fee, a one-off capital or building levy (often charged again at each new school level) and yearly resource fees. Always compare the first-year total, not the tuition line.
- SPK schools teach Indonesian subjects too. Schools licensed as Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama (international-national cooperation schools, such as Bali Island School and Dyatmika) must teach Indonesian citizens religion, Bahasa Indonesia and civics alongside the international programme. For mixed families this is a plus, not a burden.
Where Sanur’s Preschools Actually Are
Our Sanur rental report splits Sanur along the Bypass Ngurah Rai: Beachside (east, walkable to the sea) and Westside (west of the highway). Mapping the schools onto that line gives a clear result: almost every preschool in Sanur is on the Westside.
- Sanur Kauh cluster (Westside, south): The Garden, Rumah Kecil, Little Stars and KidzCafe sit within about 600 metres of each other around Jl. Tirta Akasa, Jl. Mukti Sari and Jl. Kutat Lestari.
- West Sanur Kauh: Unicorns, further west off Jl. Penyaringan, about a kilometre from the Tirta Akasa schools.
- Jl. Batur Sari (Westside, Sanur Kauh): Skoebi-do, north of the Tirta Akasa schools.
- Danau Buyan / Tukad Nyali cluster (Westside, central): Bali Island School and Sanur Independent School, about 600 metres apart.
- Kesiman (north of Sanur): Regents Preschool and Sekolah Dyatmika, both a short drive north of Sanur Kaja.
- Beachside: Cheeky Monkeys on Jl. Danau Tamblingan is the only established preschool in the tourist strip.
💡 Bali Villa Hunter Insight: Westside villas are the cheaper side of Sanur. The typical 2-bedroom pool villa there rents for around 230M IDR a year against roughly 275M on the Beachside. That ~45M saving pays for roughly a full kindergarten year at Regents on its last published prices, or two-thirds of Sanur School’s first-year bill — and puts you closer to the schools.

💰 Fees 2026/27 (official sheet, kindergarten): registration 3,000,000 (one-off) · capital levy 11,800,000 (one-off per school level) · resource levy 1,800,000 a year · tuition 12,900,000 a term or 51,600,000 a year. First-year total: 68.2M; from year two: 53.4M.
⭐ Why families choose it: a long-established, mid-priced British-style school with its own early-years building, and a clear path into primary on the same site.

One of Bali’s oldest international schools and an IB World School running the full continuum from Preschool to Grade 12. Children must be 3 years old and potty-trained to start. BIS employs Indonesian teaching partners alongside its international staff.
💰 Fees 2026/27 (official sheet, incl. capital levy): Preschool 3 half day 76,850,000 · Preschool 4 full day 92,975,000 · Kindy 154,035,000 · plus a 2,500,000 application fee for new students. Paying in instalments adds 1.5%.

💡 Mid-year entry: the capital levy is pro-rated. Children starting in Term 3 pay 80% of it and Term 4 starters pay 50%.
🏫 Sekolah Dyatmika
Image: Google Street View, © 2025 Google
A not-for-profit SPK school in Kesiman Kertalangu, a short drive north of Sanur, teaching ages 3 to 18 on one campus. It runs the Cambridge and Indonesian national curricula seriously side by side, which makes it a natural fit for mixed Indonesian-international families.
💰 Fees 2026/27 (annual): Kindergarten 1 (age 3) 52,892,000 · Kindergarten 2 (age 4) 83,067,000 · Kindergarten 3 (age 5) 94,407,000. On top comes a non-refundable admission fee at the start of each school level (Early Years counts as one), which is not published — ask for it.
⭐ Why families choose it: one school from age 3 to graduation, a genuinely bilingual environment, and a 2.5% sibling discount.
🎒 Regents Preschool Bali
The preschool campus of Regents School sits at Jl. Waribang 28, Kesiman Petilan, north of Sanur. Regents blends Cambridge syllabuses with the Indonesian national (Diknas) syllabus. English is the language of instruction, with Bahasa Indonesia and Mandarin taught as subjects alongside Balinese culture.
👶 Classes: Pre-Nursery (2–3) · Nursery (3–4) · Kindergarten 1 (4–5) · Kindergarten 2 (5–6), Monday to Friday.
💰 Fees: the last public price list (2024/25) put monthly fees at IDR 2.2–2.5M, plus a yearly fee of 1.7–2.2M and one-off entry fees. The 2026/27 list is not published, so ask for the current sheet and the full year-one total.
⭐ Why families choose it: the most affordable English-medium preschool near Sanur among those that publish prices, with a clear path to Regents’ primary and secondary campuses.
🌱 The Garden Early Learning Centre — Sanur
Image: Google Street View, © 2025 Google
The Sanur branch of a Canggu early-learning centre running since 2014 opened in 2025 at Jl. Mukti Sari 10B. It mixes Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Walker Learning with the Australian Early Years framework, and timetables Bahasa Indonesia, yoga, drama and gardening. It takes children from 15 months to 7 years and runs all year round.
💰 Fees are weekly, not yearly:
| Programme | 3 days | 4 days | 5 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-Kindergarten (3–4), half day | 2,100,000 | 2,550,000 | 2,950,000 |
| Pre-Kindergarten (3–4), full day | 2,350,000 | 2,750,000 | 3,150,000 |
| Kindergarten (4–6), full day only | 2,500,000 | 2,850,000 | 3,300,000 |
Plus a 3,000,000 enrolment fee and a refundable bond of two weeks’ fees. You are invoiced every five weeks (minimum enrolment five weeks), and fees can be suspended for up to four weeks a year when you travel.
💡 Do the maths: five days of kindergarten at 3.3M a week is about 14M IDR a month. That puts The Garden at the premium end, despite the flexible weeks.
🐒 Cheeky Monkeys Learning Centre
Image: Google Street View, © 2025 Google
One of Sanur’s longest-running English-medium preschools, open since 2005 at Jl. Danau Tamblingan 82 — the only established preschool on the Beachside. It follows the British Early Years Foundation Stage, then Key Stage 1 from age 5, for children aged 1 to 10.
📅 Attendance rules: ages 1–3 can come 2, 3 or 5 days a week. From age 3 to 5, children are expected to attend five days a week. The office is open Mon–Fri 08:00–16:00, and hourly childcare is also available.
💰 Fees: not published — ask for the current sheet.
🌴 Good to Know: a play-based, multicultural room right in the tourist strip. It is great if you live on the Beachside, but the Danau Tamblingan traffic at drop-off time is real.
🏡 Rumah Kecil Kids Learning Center
Image: Google Street View, © 2025 Google
A small, garden-style learning centre at Jl. Tirta Akasa 60, running since 2014, with its sister primary, Taruwara School, on the same site. It covers daycare, playgroup and kindergarten for ages 1–6 in an English-speaking environment, using play- and project-based learning and Jolly Phonics.
📅 Hours: Toddler and Pre-Nursery 08:00–12:30 · Nursery to Kindergarten 08:00–14:15 · extended daycare on request. Organic vegetarian meals and snacks are included.
💰 Fees: not published. Drop-in sessions are available when there is space, with advance notice — a good way to try it.
💡 Why parents like it: very small groups (parents mention one teacher per four children) and a calm, green setting a few steps from Little Stars.
⭐ Little Stars Early Learning & Kindergarten
Image: Google Street View, © 2025 Google
Known locally as Sekolah Bintang Kecil, Little Stars sits at Jl. Tirta Akasa 50, next door to Rumah Kecil. It combines the British curriculum with the Indonesian national curriculum from playgroup through primary (ages 1.5–10). The kindergarten (ages 4–6) runs 09:00–14:30.
💰 Fees: not published — ask.
⭐ Why families choose it: a small, friendly, bilingual school with weekly themed learning and a primary section, so a child can stay on after kindergarten.
🦄 Unicorns Sanur
The Sanur branch of a small Bali preschool group, which also runs centres in Canggu and Seseh, sits at Jl. Penyaringan 59, Sanur Kauh. It takes ages 2–6 in three groups: daycare and nursery (2–3), kindergarten (3–5) and a school-readiness preschool year (5–6) covering reading, writing, phonics and counting. English is the main language, groups are small, and an in-house cook prepares the meals.
📅 Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00.
💰 Fees (Sanur price list, meals included): half day (08:00–12:00) 350,000 · full day (08:00–15:00) 550,000 · five full days 2,200,000 a week · monthly full day (about 22 days) 8,000,000 · monthly until 17:00 10,500,000 · late pick-up 15:00–17:00 at 200,000 a day · one-off enrolment fee 1,500,000 · 5% sibling discount.
💡 Good to Know: single days with no commitment make Unicorns an easy way to test how your child copes in an English-speaking group. On the monthly plan it costs about the same as KidsTERRA.
🐾 Skoebi-do Sanur (childcare + Kids Club)
The Sanur branch of a Bali childcare group that also runs a centre in Canggu, at Jl. Batur Sari 26, Sanur Kauh on the Westside. It takes children aged 1 to 6 in five groups: Scrappy (1–2), Goopy (2–3), Scooby (3–4), Kindy A (4–5) and Kindy B (5–6). The programme follows the Indonesian national curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) with the Montessori method and Jolly Phonics, built around learning through play. Kindy children go on an excursion four times a year.
📅 Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00, with meals served through the day.
🎨 Kids Club: a Jolly Phonics reading-and-writing and maths class for ages 3–7, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 14:00–17:00. It is open to children who are not enrolled at Skoebi-do.
💰 Fees: not published — ask for the current sheet.
💡 Good to Know: the Kids Club works as an afternoon add-on to a morning-only preschool or a local TK, and as phonics practice before Year 1. Ask which language each group is taught in, as the centre does not say.
🍃 KidsTERRA
An English-speaking Montessori kindergarten for ages 1.5–6.5 set in the rice fields of Sanur, with no more than nine children per group, outings several times a week and a menu designed by its founders. Hours are 09:00–17:00.
💰 Fees: about IDR 9,000,000 a month, with a paid trial day at 350,000.
🌴 Good to Know: KidsTERRA does not publish a street address. Ask for a map pin on Instagram (@kids.terra) and check the drive before you commit.
🎨 KidzCafe KidzClub (drop-in childcare)
Image: Google Street View, © 2025 Google
Not a school — a family café at Jl. Kutat Lestari 53 with a big playground and an English-speaking weekday kids club for ages 2–6: Turtle group (2–3) and Manta group (3–6). Days are play-based (circle time, crafts, music, stories, some letters and numbers), and afternoon clubs include phonics, maths, Indonesian and Balinese dance.
| Option | Half day 08:00–13:00 | Full day 08:00–16:00 |
|---|---|---|
| Walk-in, no food | 200,000 | 250,000 |
| Walk-in, with meals | 250,000 | 320,000 |
| Membership 3 days/week, no food | 2,000,000 / month | 2,800,000 / month |
| Membership 5 days/week, no food | 4,000,000 / month | 5,000,000 / month |
Memberships add a 1,000,000 yearly enrolment fee.
💡 Best use: the bridge for your first weeks in Bali, while you book school trial days. As a five-day “school” it costs more than Regents and has no curriculum.
Also Within Reach
- Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School (Renon, ~10 min): IB PYP from age 3. Kindergarten is IDR 76,000,000 a year (2026/27), plus admission and enrolment fees and a deposit.

How to Choose: Questions for Your School Visit
- Is there a place now, or only from July? This narrows the list fastest.
- What is the total to pay before day one? Registration, levies, deposit, uniform and the first term.
- Can my child do a trial day? Most schools offer one, and a morning there tells you more than any brochure.
- Which languages are spoken in the room? It matters if your child arrives with no English yet.
- What are the real hours? A 08:00–10:30 kindergarten and a 08:00–15:00 one are very different products for working parents.
- What happens in the holidays? Schools follow terms. Centres like The Garden and KidzCafe run all year.
- Drive it at 07:30 on a weekday. In Sanur, which side of the Bypass you live on matters more than the kilometres.
Choosing the Villa Around the School
Pick the school first, then the villa. If your shortlist is Sanur School, BIS or the Tirta Akasa schools, you can live on the Westside: quieter streets, lower rents, and a school run that never touches the Danau Tamblingan strip. If it is Regents or Dyatmika, look at north Sanur and Sanur Kaja. Check current prices on our long-term rental data page, or tell us the school and we will shortlist villas within a short drive of it.
